What a difference a day makes ……
30th November – travelled to Leeds to attend a West Yorkshire Stakeholders workshop in the centre of Leeds, it was a very cold day and when the meeting had finished I had a walk around Leeds to see what promotional work was being done for Christmas.
I then started my journey back home. On the way I called my daughter in law who was setting up her Christmas Stall at the Yorkshire Showground, Katie was a bit behind and had her children to pick up from nursery so I said I would pop in and help her finish setting up. Two pairs of hands made light work of setting up the stall – to finish we were stapling up a very thin tarpaulin around the stand to keep all the exhibits clean and safe. I was holding the tarpaulin edge above my head whilst Katie was standing on a step, was stapling the tarpaulin to the edge of the stand , we were about six inches from finishing when I slightly twisted, doing so I felt the most excruciating pain in my left shoulder and heard an awful crack from my shoulder area…. my arm fell to my side, Katie jumped off her step to ask if I was ok…. she said I looked like I was about to pass out… she asked me to sit down…. I said I was ok, but in a lot of pain, I said originally that I thought I had broken my collar bone, but then after thinking about it I said to Katie that I must have dislocated my collarbone. I said to Katie that I was going to drive myself to the hospital, I walked to my car – which fortunately is an automatic and drove myself to the hospital, on the way to the hospital the pain subsided and I thought of just driving home when I received an electric shot of pain in my shoulder so went straight to the hospital.
Arriving at the hospital, I went to A&E and was sent to the minor injuries clinic – I was sure it was more than a minor injury ….
I was extremely lucky as there was only one person to see before me – by now I really was in so much pain. I was asked to go to an examination room where I was seen by a lovely nurse practitioner …. I told her my self diagnosis of a dislocated shoulder, after looking at my shoulder she said that my clavicle was broken, and this was confirmed with an x-ray.
The next morning I was called before 9am from the Virtual Fracture Clinic Assessment
